Je moet t allemaal niet zo letterlijk nemen! Het is maar een zelfbedacht verhaal, dus ik zou daar geen halszaak van maken.

Iedereen is zelf verantwoordelijk voor wat hij doet of zegt, ongeacht welk geloof je aanhangt.

Verder vind ik het persoonlijk onzin wat er in de bijbel staat.

De verhalen zijn van overlevering en later honderden keren vertaald. Ik geloof niet dat er nog veel van de oorspronkelijke tekst over is.

Dat zou je denken, maar je moet je nog steeds aan de 10 geboden houden als je jezelf wil kwalificeren als 'Christen'. De meeste grefo's geloven dat uiteindelijk God bepaalt of je écht gelooft, en als je écht gelooft, zou automatisch je drang moeten zijn om verantwoording te nemen: dus je aan de 10 geboden te houden. Het hele idee in de gereformeerde kerk is dat sinds de zondeval geen mens zondevrij wordt geboren en we dus allemaal naar de hel moeten. Gelukkig is dat probleem opgelost door Jezus die de zonden op zich genomen heeft. Het enige wat de mens nu nog moet doen, is Jezus aannemen als verlosser. Wil je zijn 'cadeau' niet, dan krijg je het ook niet.



Wat betreft de uitverkiezing: daar wordt zelfs binnen de gereformeerde gezindten verschillend over gedacht. De meesten geloven dat God vantevoren al uitgekozen heeft wie er 'behouden' blijft. De ene helft van de gereformeerden denkt echter dat als je gelooft, je automatisch tot de uitverkorenen behoort. De andere helft denkt dat zelfs als je gelooft, je alsnog niet uitverkoren kunt zijn. Je kunt je voorstellen dat die laatste groep wat zwaarmoediger door het leven gaat...

Zelfde discussie eens gehad met een gelovige vriendin.

Volgens haar uitleg moet het offer van Jezus niet gezien worden als vrijbrief om afstand te nemen van eigen verantwoordelijkheid.

Hoezo flauw? Zo bedoel ik het niet. Ik denk dat je daar meer inhoudelijke reacties krijgt van mensen die er veel van af weten, en het ook leuk vinden hier over te vertellen.



Hier krijg je reacties als bovenstaande. En daarbij, als je echt met het geloof aan de slag wil, doe het dan goed. Zoek mensen op die er veel vanaf weten (christelijke sites zoals EO), doe een cursus (zoals dus Alphacursus), en ga naar de kerk.



Maar hier op het Viva-forum denk ik nietdat TO veel verder zal komen.

Hmja, wat zal ik zeggen .. we zijn tegenwoordig heel erg ontwikkeld en kijken allemaal Discovery.

Gelovigen zijn dom en het onderwerp is inhoudelijk melaats.

Van mij mag ieder dat gewoon lekker zelf bepalen en aangezien Dit forum geen taboe-onderwerpen en ook niet uitsluitend niet-gelovigen bedient waarom niet? Reageren is niet verplicht.

Ik ben zelf gelovig opgevoed (baptisten gemeente). Elke zondag naar de kerk tot mn 16e. Ik doe er nu niets actieve mee, al houdt het me soms ook bezig.

Wat ik je wel wil meegeven is dat zelfs meningen binnen dezelfde kerk soms verschillen. Het geloof is niet zwart-wit en blijft een groot en soms vaag geheel. Dus alles concreet willen begrijpen is geen doen. Misschien dat je bij een gelovige/voorganger/dominee oid je vraag kan neerleggen?

Een substantieel deel van de afvallige Christenen zegt af en toe wel te bidden.

Er zijn hier vaak heel inhoudelijke topics geweest dus ik denk dat ze hier best kan vinden wat ze zoekt!

Ik ben bijvoorbeeld christelijk maar absoluut geen EO-mens. Daar vind je gelijk het uiterste denk ik.

Mijn reactie was dus niet flauw.Volgens mij heb ik heeeel inhoudelijk en correct geantwoord. Het is gewoon zoals het is. Getuige de reacties op abortustopics, gok ik dat er hier een hoop actieve Christenen rondlopen die TO ook graag zullen vertellen hoe zij erover denken.

Pro- of anti abortus heeft m.i. weinig met het geloof te maken.



Behalve dan dat gelovigen er niet over na mogen denken, het is per definitie fout en slecht en dan kom je in de hel. Maar er zijn evengoed niet-gelovigen die tegen abortus zijn. Dat erbij halen is pure kul, sterker nog: ik vind het bijzonder verheven klinken. Bah.

Verder eens met vaneeuwijk. Het is pure indoctrinatie en bangmakerij. Zo hielden ze vroeger de mensen in bedwang en onder de duim. Nu trouwens nog.. In de christelijke gemeenschap.

Pro-abortus heeft op dit forum wel degelijk met geloof te maken. De sterk anti-abortus activisten op dergelijke topics zijn over het algemeen gelovig (ik post hier al langer mee en ik heb de discussies regelmatig voorbij zien komen).

Ik zeg niet dat gelovigen anti-abortus zijn. De kans dat een grefo anti-abortus is, is overigens wel heel hoog.

Het het woord Grefo geeft al een zekere minachting aan.

Ik had zelf een oproepje gedaan tot contact met gelovige meiden aangemaakt en daarin heb ik een Jehova's Getuige meisje proberen uit te leggen wat Christenen (die geen JG zijn) geloven en wat in de Bijbel staat.

Ik leer graag nieuwe dingen bij en vind het fijn als je me vertelt wat de Jehova's Getuigen nou precies geloven, want anders is dat misschien niet duidelijk.

Oh ja, wij bijbelse Christenen (for lack of a better word) geloven trouwens niet dat God ons eeuwig zal martelen in hel, maar dat Satan dat (helaas) doet. En dat Jezus naar de aarde is gekomen, om ons van de duivel/Satan te verlossen. En we geloven dat Satan's grootste truuk is, om ons te laten denken dat hij niet bestaat (of God niet of zonde uberhaupt) en je dus niet in de hel komt na de dood. De hel was bereid/gemaakt voor Satan (Lucifer toen hij nog een aartsengel was & rebelleerde door gelijk te willen zijn aan God). De duivel haat ons (omdat wij in Gods evenbeeld zijn gemaakt; en niet zoals de engelen) en wil ons in de hel hebben. In de Bijbel staat dat hij wil ons af snijden van God, door ons te laten zondigen.



Hij wil ons meetrekken in zijn hoogmoed, zodat we ook denken dat we God niet nodig hebben. Als God niet bestaat, waarom zou je dan in Jezus geloven en die ouderwetse ideeën zoals zonde? Zo vervallen we steeds meer in de zonde, waar Satan ons in wil hebben. In de Bijbel staat dat de mensheid verleid is door Satan in het begin en daarom hebben wij een rebellie/hoogmoed jegens God, die we via Adam & Eva hebben geërfd. Dat weet Satan en maakt daar gebruik van.



Die leugen van Satan dat God ons niet zal straffen als we iets doen wat niet mag (zoals van de verboden vrucht/appel om kennis te krijgen over goed en kwaad), is dus goed gelukt bij Adam & Eva. Om die reden ziet God ons nu ook als zijn gevallen kinderen, maar wil niets liever ons graag verlossen uit Satans duisternis. Hij is een God van liefde, maar ook een rechtvaardige God die slechtheid moet bestraffen; anders is Hij God niet. Hij heeft dus een uitweg uit die ellende gecreëerd voor ons. Hij heeft zijn Zoon Jezus gestuurd om te sterven voor ons. Jezus heeft al onze zonden op zich genomen en heeft onze straf=de doodstraf doorstaan. Hij versloeg de Dood en bewees God te zijn door te herrijzen uit zijn graf. Dus door Jezus zijn dood aan het kruis, zijn wij allen verlost.



Maar om verzoend te worden met God, moeten we eerst inzien dat we gevallen zijn als mensheid (anders leefden we wel in een wereld zonder haat, moord en oorlogen) en dus een Verlosser/Redeemer/Bemiddelaar tussen ons en God nodig hebben. Door geloof in Jezus als onze Redder uit de duisternis (die zijn eigen leven te gaf met het doel dat wij voor altijd bij God mogen wonen), hebben we aan God bewezen dat we niet willen zondigen en dat het ons spijt. Dan wast Hij ons schoon van alle voorgaande en toekomstige zonden en belooft ons het eeuwige leven met Hem in de hemel als zijn rechtmatige kinderen.



Voor Jezus zijn tijd, offerden mensen geiten/lammeren etc. overal ter wereld om zich voor een jaar (of een andere bepaalde tijd) te verzoenen met God. God wilde heel graag dat we voor eeuwig verzoend werden met Hem en daarom is Hij ons gaan helpen als de Vader van Jezus, God op aarde. Als Jezus een aardse vader had gehad, had Hij de diezelfde zonde, die ons in zijn greep houdt, niet kunnen weghalen. Doordat Maria bevrucht werd door God de Vader, had Jezus de Zoon die menselijke erfzonde niet in zijn bloed (de zonde werd door de mannelijke lijn doorgegeven) en was zijn bloed aan het kruis een acceptabel offer voor God.



Jezus is dus het ultieme offerlam geweest en heeft zijn bloed tijdens zijn hemelvaart/terugkeer naar de hemel bij God gebracht.

Het offer is gemaakt op het altaar van God; het bloed van het onschuldige lam heeft ons terug gebracht in Gods gratie. Sindsdien zijn we vrij! Zoals ze zeggen: "Jesus paid a debt (of sin) he didn't owe, because we owed a debt we could not pay."

Wij als mensen zijn gevallen en hebben niets te bieden wat 'smetteloos/onschuldig" (behalve voorheen de offerdieren) is in de ogen van God en wat onze zonde weg kan nemen. Hoe hard we ook 'werken'/goede daden doen om God te behagen/'pleasen'; we hebben niets zuivers te bieden zonder Jezus. Je moet goede daden doen, omdat God je heeft veranderd en niet om je slechte daden af te kopen zonder je zonden toe te geven.



Maar zolang we niet inzien dat zonde de oorzaak is van de onvolledigheid in ons & de ellende in de wereld, kunnen/willen/accepteren we Jezus zijn offer niet en heeft Satan nog steeds vrij spel. Maar het is onze keuze....



Diegenen die in Jezus geloven (als Almachtig God), die het verzoeningsoffer met God de Vader heeft gemaakt ten behoeve van ons, zullen vrijgemaakt worden van alle zonden (oerzonde en persoonlijke zonden) en dus vrij zijn van God's rechtmatige oordeel (branden in de hel als betaling voor de zonden).



Jezus heeft ons door het geloof in Hem, wit gewassen met zijn onschuldige bloed voor de ogen van God en daarmee bevrijd uit de klauwen van Satan (hoeven we niet naar de hel). God vult ons (na onze acceptatie van Jezus offer en onze bekentenis in gebed), dan met de Heilige Geest; zodat het kwaad ons niet meer kan deren en we gemakkelijker weerstand kunnen bieden aan de verleiding van zonde zolang we nog op aarde (Satan's territorium) leven (het vlees is zwak).



Iedere leugen die men ooit verteld heeft, kan men dus uit de hemel houden. God kan niet anders dan rechtvaardig zijn. Dat is de definitie van God. God zou God niet zijn als er moordenaars (daar kan iedereen zich in vinden), maar ook leugenaars toelaat in de hemel. In de Bijbel staat dat zelfs een kleine leugen (vond ik eerst echt schokkend) je uit de hemel kan houden, omdat God dat ziet als een misdaad/zonde, zoals een rechter in een rechtszaak dat ziet en een misdaad moet bestraffen.



Hij ziet dat als een zonde (waar we toe verleid zijn door Satan; beroofd van onze onschuld) en die moet bestraft worden. Maar omdat God zoveel van ons houdt, heeft hij zijn Zoon Jezus naar de aarde gestuurd. Hij was vrij van zonde, omdat Hij geen aardse vader had, en Hij had dus geen zonde overgeërfd via Adam & Eva. Ieder die in Hem gelooft, zal schoon worden gewassen in Jezus bloed, voor de ogen van God en het eeuwige leven hebben.



De Drie-eenheid begrijp ik door het, voor mijzelf te zien als lichaam, ziel en geest. Jezus als God in het vlees/lichaam op aarde toen (nu levend in de hemel), de Vader in de Hemel als onze ziel en de Heilige Geest als onze geest. Net als een ei één ei is, dat bestaat uit de schil, de dooier en het eiwit.



Als men inziet/erkent dat men niet perfect is en echt zonden heeft gepleegd (zelfs een kleine leugen), zal men door het geloof in Jezus verlost worden van Satan (die de mensheid als sinds het begin in zijn greep houdt door haat, leugens, oorlogen etc). Je zal dan vrij van smet zijn zoals Jezus en we mogen dus toe worden gelaten in God's koninkrijk in de hemel, als Zijn kinderen na de dood. Dat is het Christelijk geloof in a nutshell

Wel fundamenteel verschillend van de Jehova's Getuigen die niet geloven in de Drie-eenheid (Jezus is God) en de hel en een Persoonlijke Verlosser en leven na de dood. Vandaar de uitleg.



Niemand is trouwens beter dan een ander (ook Christenen niet). Ze zeggen toch ook "a church is a hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints". Wij allen, niemand uitgezonderd, zijn zondaars volgens de Bijbel & God en zijn dus niet perfect zoals God.



Mijn geloof in Jezus als God, verschilt gewoon van jouw geloof. Om deze redenen, had ik het er ook bij gezet dat ik geen JG ben, zodat iemand weet wat voor 'soort' Christen ik ben, om het zo maar te zeggen haha "

Je vraag begrijp ik wel (heb er zelf ook over moeten lezen), want als je in Jezus gelooft, zijn je zonden toch afgekocht (verleden, heden en toekomst)?

Dan kan je toch niets verkeerds meer doen?



Mijn ervaring is; wanneer je echt gelooft (believe in) en Jezus als jouw redder (believe upon) ziet, dan verandert Hij jou. Zijn Heilige Geest komt dan in jou wonen en dan wil je niet meer zondigen. Je wordt dan een nieuw persoon, want volgens de Bijbel zijn we allen spiritueel dood (second death) en als je gaat geloven in Jezus word je opnieuw geboren (born again).



Dit soort teksten hielpen mij om dit onderwerp beter te begrijpen.



Do I Have to Give Up My Sins to be Saved?



"And they went out, and preached that men should repent." —Mark 6:12



The answer is No! You do NOT have to stop sinning to be saved. No one can stop sinning (Romans 3:23)! No one can live above sin—no one (Isaiah 64:6). Jesus Christ came into this world to save sinners. You do NOT have to give up anything to be saved except your UNBELIEF. However, you DO need to realize your sinful condition and "confess" (or admit) to God that you are a sinner, deserving of hell. This is Biblical repentance, i.e., "a change of mind."



To be saved, a sinner simply needs to become "guilty" before God (Romans 3:19). Repentance is NOT forsaking one's actual sins, for that would be self-righteousness? Repentance is acknowledging that I am guilty of violating God's holy Law, and that I deserve to be punished in Hellfire for my own sins. Thus, realizing one's need for a Saviour. This is exactly what Galatians 3:24 teaches, "Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith."



A person who is convicted about their sin won't have the joyous attitude that they can continue living in sin and still go to Heaven. I would greatly doubt the salvation of anyone who rejoices that they can continue living in sin. This is one of the favorite arguments of Lordship Salvationists. The truth is that God holds believers accountable for their words and actions (Romans 14:12; 1st Peter 4:17; 2nd Corinthians 5:10).



Repentance is a turn of mind. When you turn to Christ for forgiveness, you have just turned your back on sin.





What is Biblical Repentance?



Repentance is a turn-around of mind! Whereas we were heading towards hell-fire and destruction, we realized our sinful condition and turned to the loving Saviour Who shed His precious blood for our many sins (1st Peter 1:18,19). Repentance is a change of heart. Before we were saved, sin was magnified in our life while Jesus was diminished. Now that we've been born-again, Christ is magnified and sin is diminished. As we grow in the Lord, this trend should continue to where Jesus becomes everything to us, and sin nothing.



Notice from the picture above that for a person to turn to Christ in Heaven is to turn one's back on sin and hell. Does a believer have to repent to be saved? Absolutely! But it's a repentance of the heart (a turn-around of our heart) concerning Jesus Christ and our sins. Whereas before we did not believe on Christ, now we do! Whereas before we lived in sin with no conviction, now we are convicted for our sins. It is uncommon that new believers simply clean up their act right away; it takes time for the Holy Spirit to work in one's heart. It's a lifetime process of growing. We grow with the milk of God's Word (1st Peter 2:2).



We are all woeful sinners (Romans 3:10,23). To be saved, a person MUST realize their sinful condition. It is NOT enough simply to commit your life to God or decide to turn over a new leaf. This is self-righteousness and a false gospel. To be saved, you must confess to God (not to men) that you are a wicked sinner in need of forgiveness, and then believe on Jesus Christ to forgive you (Acts 10:43).





What a Wonderful Saviour!



Do you need to give up your sins to be saved? No; but you must acknowledge them for what they are, wicked sins. You see friend, most people refuse to acknowledged their sinful condition. I've heard a young woman say that since Adam and Eve were naked in Eden that pornography must be acceptable with God. She is woefully wrong. Some people justify immoral sex on the basis that God made the body beautiful. This is wrong thinking. Others seek to justify smoking cigarettes on the basis that it grows from God's earth, so it must be acceptable. This is of course absurd. Poison Ivy also grows naturally, should we rub it all over our bodies? Many people attempt to rationalize their sins; but God's Law never changes. Pornography is of the Devil. Substance abuse is sinful. Adultery is sinful. The Bible (Law of God) condemns our sins and we have no excuses.



"Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin." —Romans 3:20



Do you have to give up your sins to be saved? No, just your unbelief. I get upset when people teach "Lordship salvation." What is that? Lordship salvation is the false doctrine that you must make Christ the "Lord" of your life to be saved, that you must repent and depart from sin. That is impossible! There is no such thing as a believer who does not commit sin. We are all woeful sinners. If I have to give up a certain amount of sin to be saved, then how much do I have to give up? Just because a person accepts Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour does not mean they are above sin. As a matter of fact, getting saved is just the start of a lifelong process. Try as hard as you may, you are going to walk in the flesh at times and sin. I have often said, "Christians at best are people, and people at best are sinners." We can walk in the Spirit at any given time; but the fact is that we're not always going to do so because we are sinners.





A License to Sin?



No one has God's Permission to sin. If you want to be Biblical, a believer does in fact have a license to sin. No sin that a believer commits can ever jeopardize one's Eternal Security. To teach otherwise is to negate the gift of God and teach a false gospel of self-righteousness. Salvation is the gift of God, based upon Christ's imputed righteousness to our account; and not any good of our own. We are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8,9). Salvation is receiving; not giving.



Believers who choose to live in sin will be "chastised" by God (Hebrews 12:8). For anyone to be able to live in sin without conviction from God's Holy Spirit means they are not saved, i.e., a "bastard" as Hebrews 12:8 states... "But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons." Certainly, many believers do choose to live in sin; but they are miserable and know that God does not approve. Every believer in Jesus Christ will give account to God for the good and bad done on earth (Romans 14:12; 2nd Corinthians 5:10).



Although the genuine believer does in fact has a "license to sin" if they so choose; they certainly do NOT have God's permission to sin and will be judged at The Judgment Seat of Christ (2nd Corinthians 5:10) accordingly. Many believers will receive no rewards at this judgment and will be ashamed and overwhelmed with tears (1st Corinthians 3:15; 5:5).



Nevertheless, say what you will, no believer will ever stand trial at The Great White Throne of Judgment for sins committed in this lifetime (Revelation 20:11-15). This is "why" there will be 2 separate and distinct judgments: one for the SAVED, and one for the UNSAVED.





The Biggest Problem in Winning Someone to the Lord



The hardest part about getting people saved is getting them lost! Most people are relying upon their own self-righteousness for Heaven, which is what most so-called "churches" teach nowadays. The Bible plainly states: "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us..." (Titus 3:5). I haven't met too many people, although I've met some, who say they do know they're going to Hell and don't care. Most people want to go to Heaven to live in happiness forever. Sadly, and tragically, most people have been lied to by some priest or sinister minister into believing that good works are a part of saving faith, which is a false gospel.





The Best of Christians are Still Sinners



A lot of religious people have a problem with the idea that a person can be born-again and yet still commit horrible sins. I am not condoning sin at all; I am simply saying that even the best of Christians are still sinners.



King David was a Christian who killed a man to cover up his sin of adultery with the man's wife. It took one year for David to repent. Peter was one of the Apostles; yet denied Christ, cursed Jesus' holy name and quit the ministry. Moses murdered a man. Sometimes Christians do horrible things. This does not mean they're not truly saved.



I knew of a minister with a wicked hot-temper who poured bleach over his wife's head while she sat crippled in a wheelchair. It's hard to believe that a Christian could do such a thing, but it happened. It's wrong and I'm not condoning sin; I'm simply saying that believers are still sinners. You need to be very careful about deciding who's saved or not based on what you see (1st Samuel 16:7). I've known decent believers from my past who later committed some really horrible sins. Though sad and tragic, it does not mean that they're not saved. It does mean they got away from walking with God on a daily basis.



Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not trying to go light on sin here. We should try to live above sin.



"Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity." —2nd Timothy 2:19



God wants His children to live righteous; but living right is not a prerequisite for salvation. You do NOT have to give up anything to be saved except your unbelief! Put your faith in the Lord friend to forgive your sins and you will be saved. Jesus will help you to straighten out your life. Give God your heart and he'll comb the kinks out of your head.



Never let anyone tell you that you must depart from sin to be saved, for this is heresy. Again, "repentance" in the Bible simply means "a change of mind." Repentance means that we decide to trust Christ as our Saviour to forgive us of all our wicked sins. Repentance simply means to get saved. We get saved by confessing our sins to God and asking Him to forgive us. To turn to Christ is to turn from sin—this is repentance! This is why we find the word "believe" mentioned 85-times in the Gospel of John; yet the word "repent " is not mentioned even once. Hence, the man who believes on Jesus Christ to forgive his sins has repented already in his heart.



The Lord Jesus had plenty to say about REPENTANCE--



Luke 24:47, "Jesus said to them] that REPENTANCE and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem."



Luke 5:32, "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to REPENTANCE."



Mark 1:15, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: REPENT ye, AND BELIEVE the gospel."



Regenerated versus Converted



I have known believers who claimed to be Christians; yet they went to nightclubs. I've known people who claimed the name of Christ who were often mean and abusive to other people. Does that mean they're not saved? No, it does mean they're worldly and immature in the Lord. Conversion has NOTHING to do with being regenerated (saved). Luke 22:32, “But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.” Jesus told Peter to strengthen his fellow brethren after he was “CONVERTED.” The Greek word for “converted” here is epistrepho and means “to revert” (go back to a previous state, to come back). The Lord is referring to the three incidents when Peter denied Jesus. The Lord was not talking to Peter about salvation here. Peter was already saved. Jesus simply told Peter that when He came back to help his brethren by strengthening them in the Lord.



At the time we are saved we are re-gened, or regenerated with the Holy Spirit of God. Being “born again” means having He Who is the beginning born in us (Revelation 1:8). Salvation is like being pulled from the garbage. Just because God pulled you out of the incinerator of Hell doesn't mean that you've been RECYCLED yet. The recycling process is conversion. Being saved from Hell is just the very beginning. God has a recycling program for every believer. The new birth is immediate, but sanctification is a lifelong process that begins at salvation.



We are instantly saved at the moment we trust Christ as Saviour; but the conversion process to make us what God wants us to be takes time to grow in the Lord. The Bible speaks of growing in grace (1st Peter 2:2). Please don't misunderstand—a person does NOT have to be converted to be saved; but an unconverted person will remain outside of the will of God for their life. A person DOES have to be regenerated (born again) to be saved, i.e., Christ born in us. No one ever got saved who didn't realize that they were a sinner. The Old Testament law diagnoses man's problem, which is SIN. Jesus is the solution, Who died in our place and paid for our sins (Galatians 3:24-25).



To be saved, we must repent of our sins only in the sense that we must agree with God that we are hell-deserving sinners! The truth is that we will be repenting of sins for the rest of our life. To clarify, we are saved ONCE and only once. Once you receive the gospel (Christ's death, burial and resurrection) as full-payment for your sins, you are a child of God forever. You CANNOT lose your salvation! If saved, always saved!



Now once you've become a believer, God is going to convict you of sin by His Spirit that indwells every believer (Romans 8:9). King David went for 9 months in denial after killing Uriah and stealing the man's wife. It wasn't until Nathan the prophet came to open David's eyes that he finally repented. David was saved, but hadn't repented until almost a year later. This happens to many believers, i.e., we get out of line and fail to see it until someone else points it out to us. Proverbs 14:14 warns that the backslider in heart becomes filled with his OWN WAYS.





Beware of Lordship Salvation



Too many Christians want to add holy living to salvation under the guise of repentance. No friend, repentance is simply a turn around of mind. At salvation, a man's mind has changed about sin and the Saviour. This is the beginning of his new life in Christ. Yes, he should be sorry for his sins; but this is a FRUIT of genuine repentance and not a part of saving-faith. Yes, he should have a desire to change his sinful ways to please God; but this is a FRUIT of genuine repentance and not a part of saving-faith.



If we correctly view salvation as a new birth (that is, a spiritual, second, birth by the Spirit of God) then we will not expect sinners to mend their ways as part of being saved. That would be as ridiculous to expect a newborn human baby to run a marathon. Just as a newborn babe must first learn to crawl before he can walk, and learn to walk before he can run; so also does a new believer need to grow in the milk of the Word before he or she can reasonably be expected to live a consecrated life.



To say that a new believer should be holy and separated is like saying that a newly born baby should be able to play sports or run a marathon. How ridiculous for anyone to place such a burden upon a new believer. God never asks us to give up anything to be saved. There are two types of religions in the world: "DO" and "DONE" (i.e., either you believe you must do something to get to Heaven; or else you believe it's already done, paid in full by the Lord Jesus Christ). I'm in the DONE group. How about you?



Jesus paid it all,

all to Him I owe;

Sin had left a crimson stain,

He washed it white as snow!



You do NOT have to make Jesus your "Lord" to be saved. Jesus is Lord; you don't make Him Lord! The idea of surrendering to Christ's Lordship as part of saving-faith is a false gospel of self-righteousness.





Conclusion



Acts 26:20 ...they should repent and TURN TO GOD, AND DO WORKS MEET FOR REPENTANCE.



Acts 2:39, 3:19 REPENT YE therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out...



Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to REPENT:



Acts 20:21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.



Again, "repent" simply means "a change of mind." If I'm going down the road the wrong way and then make a U-turn, I'll have to spend some time driving back. Likewise, when you get saved, depending how far you've gone down the road of sin, it's going to take time (with the Lord's help) to straighten out your life. Lordship Salvation totally eliminates the growing-in-grace process. It takes years to genuinely mature in the Lord. All you need to do to be saved is to come as a guilty sinner and trust upon the Lord Jesus Christ to forgive your sins (Acts 10:43).



Do you have to give up your sin to be saved? No friend, just admit that you are a sinner. Go to the Lord Jesus and trust Him to forgive you. What's done is done and you can't make up for it, that's why Jesus came to die on the cross for you. Simply place your 100% faith in Christ for salvation. All you need is Jesus, just like the thief on the cross needed Jesus and called out to Christ for salvation.





If we accept Jesus as Savior, can we then sin all we want?

Being saved is not accomplished by reciting a few special words. We do not say a magic phrase and become saved. We do not merely say, "Jesus please forgive me" and suddenly all of our sins are automatically wiped away simply because we uttered a special sentence. It isn't a formula for salvation or an incantation that somehow cleanses us and then permits us to go out and sin. The Bible says, "What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace might increase? May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?" (Rom. 6:1-2).1 Unfortunately, there are those who accuse Christians of having a license to sin. To this, the Bible says, "And why not say (as we are slanderously reported and as some affirm that we say), 'Let us do evil that good may come?' Their condemnation is just," (Rom. 3:8). Notice that Paul says that those who accuse the Christians of doing evil are being slanderous.



On the contrary, salvation is an appeal to God for cleansing from sin, forgiveness, and repentance so that we might not sin. This appeal is a heartfelt confession of our hopelessness before God and an acceptance of Jesus' sacrifice on our behalf. It is simultaneous with sincere repentance which is a turning from sin, not to it.



To receive Jesus in our hearts means we have first acknowledged that we are sinners and that we are incapable of saving ourselves or of appeasing God in any way. We acknowledge before God that we are helpless and worthy of damnation. But with this, we also acknowledge that Jesus is the one who paid the penalty for our sins. We realize that there is no possible way that we can make things right with God by our own works. When we accept Jesus as our Savior we are accepting the call to repentance from sin. God then calls us His children: "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name," (John 1:12).

New Creatures



Furthermore, when we receive Christ, we are regenerated; we are changed; we are born again. This means that there is something different about us. Something has happened to us. This is why Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God," (John 3:3). To be born again means that something new has happened in us. This "something" is the change in us that is the result of regeneration. "Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come," (2 Cor. 5:17). The old things were the sinful passions and desires. Our enslavement to them is broken when we are born again. Furthermore, once we are born again, we are no longer our own and we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit who convicts us of our sins, "And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin, and righteousness, and judgment," (John 16:8). This conviction of sins occurs in the believer and is a method that the Lord uses to help us stop sinning. We are not saved so that we are free to go out and do that which is wrong. We are saved so that we might bring glory to God and demonstrate the work of regeneration in us as we turned from our sinful ways. This is why it says in Rom. 6:1-2, "What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace might increase? 2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?" And also, "What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!" (Rom. 6:15). And again, "Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God," (1 Cor. 10:31). How can we bring glory to God by going out and sinning? We cannot. In fact, anyone who says that he is a Christian and then continues in his sins without seeking repentance and without conviction is a liar. The Bible clearly states, "The one who says, 'I have come to know Him,' and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; 5 but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: 6 the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked," (1 John 2:4-6).



The Bible says that Jesus bore our sins in his body on the cross (1 Pet. 2:24) and that salvation is a free gift we receive by faith (Rom. 6:23; Eph. 2:8-9). When we accept Jesus, we are accepting the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins, by faith. We are trusting Jesus alone for salvation. When we do this, the Holy Spirit lives in us. Since the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8) we then seek to please God and avoid sin. It is a natural result of being saved.



No, accepting Jesus does not mean that we can then go out and sin. It means we have turned from sin and we are new creatures who desire to bring glory to God and not use the grace of God to sin.

Whosoever Will May Come



As we learned in the previous chapter, “WHOSOEVER WILL MAY COME” for salvation. The invitation to be saved is to WHOSOEVER... “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And WHOSOEVER WILL, let him take the water of life freely” (Revelation 22:17). Whosoever will may come to be saved. This is the freewill of mankind.



We read in Romans 10:13, “For WHOSOEVER shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” God is a “whosoever God.” He says that anyone may come to the throne of grace for salvation. All that God asks is that we come by way of faith in Christ Jesus alone. There is NOTHING in the Bible about God choosing anyone for salvation. Mankind has been given a freewill by God to make our own decisions.





Predestined to be Conformed into Jesus' Image



Let’s look at Romans 8:29 again... “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate TO BE CONFORMED TO THE IMAGE OF HIS SON, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” Predestination means that God has chosen us “to be conformed into Jesus’ likeness.” The Bible does NOT say anything about being chosen for salvation. God knows in advance who will be saved and who won’t but He does NOT choose who will be saved or lost. We decide to accept or reject Christ of our own freewill.



Nevertheless, there are still those who teach that you cannot be saved unless God first chooses you—this is utter foolishness. This false teaching is popular amongst the followers of John Calvin. May I say, we ought to SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES as Jesus commanded in John 5:39 and not follow the errant teachings of flawed men such as John Calvin or Jacob Arminius. Phooey on Protestantism with its unbiblical sacraments and all the other writings of men which distort the Word of God. The Bible should be our Final Authority as believers.



The truth concerning predestination is that God looked ahead in time, in His foreknowledge, and saw those who would one day be saved and He predestinated them to be conformed into Christ’s likeness. The Bible doesn't say that God predestinates anyone to salvation. No, rather, the Bible says that God predestinates them to be CONFORMED to the image of Christ. This is what predestination means. God has predestinated for my life to be conformed into Christ's image, and directs the events of my life as such.





God Has a Predestined Purpose for Every Believer



God has many plans for each and every Believer! “In whom also we have obtained AN INHERITANCE, being PREDESTINATED ACCORDING TO THE PURPOSE of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will” (Ephesians 1:11). This is very interesting! God has a purpose for every Christian. Jeremiah 1:5 declares, "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations." God had a predetermined purpose for Jeremiah before the prophet was even born. God has a purpose for all His children. God works all things according to His own will. This is why Romans 8:28 teaches that all things will eventually work out for good for all Believers, “And we know that ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”



Notice that all things are NOT good! The Bible says that all things will WORK OUT for good. You WILL experience pain, suffering and loss in this earthly life. Fortunate are those who have had the opportunity to enjoy a rich and happy life with little problems down here; however, most are not as fortunate. There are billions of people living in poverty right now. Millions of children are dying in other nations because of starvation and lack of simple vitamins. Most people don’t know what suffering is. Yet, we all have our heartaches and problems in life. Even in a wealthy nation like the USA which has been greatly blessed by Almighty God, pain and suffering are all too common. No one in this life is immune to loss, sadness, sickness, disappointment and hurt. The Bible does not promise paradise on earth; on the contrary, God told Adam and Eve that they would suffer in pain and toil. Howbeit, the Bible promises that ALL THINGS will work together our good in the end. We know at least that all things will be good when we get to Heaven to be with the Lord.





Predestined to Receive an Inheritance from the Lord



Most people don’t associate the word “predestination” with Romans 8:28. What does predestination have to do with the things in my life working together for good down the road? It has everything to do with it.



You and I have been predestinated to receive an inheritance from the Lord. Let’s read Ephesians 1:11 once more, “In whom also we have obtained AN INHERITANCE, being PREDESTINATED ACCORDING TO THE PURPOSE of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will” (Ephesians 1:11). God has so many wonderful things for us when we get to Heaven, we cannot even begin to imagine all that will happen. God has given us the Holy Spirit as a “down-payment” or as a “token of His promise” that He has purchased us and we have an inheritance in Heaven, “...ye were SEALED with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the EARNEST of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory” (Ephesians 1:13,14). The word “earnest” means “pledge.”



A Believer knows that they are saved because they have the Holy Spirit—God’s pledge to every Believer that He will perform all that He has PROMISED to do for us as His Children. Do you have the Holy Spirit living within you? I do! God has given me the Holy Spirit to let the Devil know that I have been PURCHASED By God. I have been purchased with the blood of Jesus Christ. I am a Child of the King, a member of God’s Family. So the next time you think of Romans 8:28 when things are going bad, remember that ultimately we all fall into God’s divine plan which He will accomplish. No matter how bad things may seem here on earth, be rest assured that our Heavenly Father is still on His throne and is in absolute control, we have NOTHING to fear. Bad things will always happen in life, but someday (within God’s predestinated plan) we will all be very happy and content in the Lord. It’s just a matter of time!





What God Has Started, He Will Finish



Moreover whom he did PREDESTINATE, them he also CALLED: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified” (Romans 8:30). The word “called” means “to invite.” God invites all men to salvation, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to ALL MEN” (Titus 2:11). If God chose people for salvation, then Titus 2:11 would not be true. The grace of God has appeared to all people everywhere (an invitation to be saved). What we do with that invitation is another story. The word “called” can be misleading if you take it our of context. We must interpret this verse within the context of the complete Word of God. There are plenty of Scriptures teaching that salvation is available to anyone who wants it. This doctrine of predestination simply means, “what God has started, He will finish!” “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you WILL PERFORM IT until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). God will continue with us ‘til the end of this life and beyond. God will never leave us or forsake us... “...I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5). What a wonderful God!



For those who are saved, God predestinates them to become like Jesus and to receive a divine inheritance... “Having PREDESTINATED us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will” (Ephesians 1:5). God wanted those who would someday be saved to be as His own Children, so God adopted them. If you are saved, you are an ADOPTED child of God. Now Jesus is the “only begotten” Son of God but God has many “adopted” sons and daughters. For those who receive Jesus as their personal Savior, God has already predestined them to be adopted. God says, “You accept Me and I’ll adopt you as my very own child.” A good father tries to leave an inheritance to his children and to his grandchildren... “A good man LEAVETH AN INHERITANCE to his children's children...” (Proverbs 13:22). Truly, God is the greatest of all Fathers and has provided us with an inheritance in Christ Jesus. I believe day-by-day God is preparing things for us in Heaven. Is this not what Jesus said in John 14:2, “...I go to PREPARE A PLACE for you.” This is all part of the predestination of God. God foreknew who would be saved and decided to do all these wonderful things for them. Oh how God loves His Children!
