Afgelopen zaterdag de demonstratie in Den Haag tegen het geweld van Israel tegen de Palestijnen.

Ten eerste is 'half Nederland' een uitdrukking en geen exacte omschrijving met statistische nauwkeurigheid. Verder zei ik nergens dat men volledig achter de arrestaties stond, men had er begrip voor: de Zwarte Piet demonstranten omdat die arme kinders zomaar geconfronteerd zouden kunnen worden met de waarheid (Dat de Sint een verklede man was), de anti-koningshuis demonstranten omdat ze een leuk feestje aan het verpesten waren, het niet kies was naar het koningspaar toe en er mogelijk rellen zouden kunnen uitbreken.
Wat mij in deze Gaza/Israël discussie ontzettend stoort, is de stemmingmakerij die met 1 google-search ontkracht kan worden. Een Amerikaanse Jood die opgepakt wordt opvoeren als teken dat er geen persvrijheid in Israël is of dat gans Israël geen tegenspraak duldt, is gewoon idioot. Dat soort shit gebeurt overal, ook in ons vrije Nederland. Is het goed: Nee. Maar het zegt verder niks over het conflict, behalve dat het een gevoelig onderwerp is.
Paar nieuwsdingen die ik de afgelopen tijd voorbij heb zien komen:
-4 mensen opgepakt bij pro-Israël demonstratie (dit waren vier mensen die "nazi's" scandeerden of de Hitlergroet brachten. Nergens wordt duidelijk of deze mensen bij de demonstranten hoorden)
-Koningspaar van Zweden staat achter Palestina-demonstranten: dit betrof een oude foto
-Kinderen betekenen raketten met stift, met teksten als 'From Israel, with love', die voor Gaza bedoeld zijn. Deze foto's komen uit 2006. Google maar eens (op children Israel sign missiles) en lees de ware toedracht
Ik snap gewoon werkelijk niet waarom mensen met droge ogen dit soort stupide dingen voor waar aannemen en retweeten of hier plaatsen als: 'zie je wel, hoe slecht ze zijn!' Als het op dit conflict aankomt lijken mensen opeens hun vermogen tot rationeel nadenken volledig te verliezen...

@Debora, ik denk eerder dat de Amerikaanse jongen opgepakt werd omdat hij weigerde zich te legitimeren terwijl hij met zijn paspoort zwaaide. Dat wordt in Nederland al niet getolereerd, als de politie in Nederland vraagt naar je legitimatiebewijs en je weigert dan moet je ook mee, laat staan in Israel een land dat al jaren de veiligheid in de hoogste vorm terecht bewaakt en ook wel last heeft ondervonden door Europese vredesdemonstranten (pro-Palestina) of zoals bijvoorbeeld een Amerikaans meisje dat doodleuk uit protest voor een bulldozer ging zitten niet wetende dat zulke grote machines een blinde hoek hebben en veel lawaai maken....
Wat dan weer beknopt/gekleurd in het wereldnieuws komt.

Je hebt helemaal gelijk hoor. Kun je nagaan, in Nederland worden mensen écht opgepakt zonder goede redenen (verstoring van de openbare orde...)
Maar ik zie het gewoon voorbijkomen op al mn sociale media. Sommige mensen zijn zo van jongsafaan opgevoed met Israëlhaat, dat ieder nieuwsflardje ten nadele van dat land meteen voor waar wordt aangenomen. Maar zodra er nieuws vanuit Israël komt, zijn ze opeens heel kritisch en beschuldigen ze anderen van propaganda, de ogen sluiten, etc...
(Het zal andersom ook wel voorkomen, maar ik heb gewoon niet zoveel CIDI-aanhangers in mn kennissenkring, denk ik)

EU eist ontwapening Hamas

Als duidelijk signaal dat ook de Europese Unie genoeg heeft van het geweld van moslimfundamentalisten, vraagt de EU in navolging van Israël om de ontwapening van Hamas en andere terroristische groepen in Gaza.
Dat deden de 28 ministers van Buitenlandse Zaken van de Europese Unie in een gezamenlijke verklaring, uitgegeven na een bijeenkomst van de Europese Raad. Daarin wordt opgeroepen tot een einde aan raketaanvallen van Hamas en een onmiddellijke wapenstilstand.
“De EU veroordeelt ten sterkste het willekeurige afvuren van raketten op Israël door Hamas en andere militante groeperingen in de Gazastrook, wat burgers in gevaar brengt.
Dit is misdadig en op geen enkele manier te rechtvaardigen.
Het legitieme recht van Israël om zich te verdedigen tegen deze aanvallen wordt erkend.
De EU beklemtoont dat de Israëlische militaire operatie in verhouding en in overeenstemming met het internationaal humanitair recht moet zijn.
De EU veroordeelt ten sterkste de oproepen aan de burgerbevolking van Gaza om zich in te zetten als menselijk schild.
De EU roept Hamas om onmiddellijk een einde maken aan de aanvallen en het geweld af te zweren.
Alle terroristische groeperingen in Gaza moeten ontwapend worden.”
Eerder op de dag veroordeelde ook de secretaris-generaal van de VN Ban Ki-moon de raketaanvallen van Hamas en riep de organisatie op om te stoppen met het gebruik van civiele locaties voor militaire doeleinden.
Tevens riep hij op tot een wapenstilstand – wat tot drie maal aan toe door Hamas geweigerd is.

EU Council conclusions on the Middle East Peace Process

The Council adopted the following conclusions:
"1. The EU is extremely concerned at the continued escalation of violence in Gaza and calls for an immediate cessation of the hostilities based on a return to the November 2012 ceasefire agreement. In this regard the EU welcomes on-going efforts by regional partners, and in particular by Egypt, and reiterates its readiness to provide the necessary support to this end.
The EU strongly condemns the indiscriminate firing of rockets into Israel by Hamas and militant groups in the Gaza Strip, directly harming civilians. These are criminal and unjustifiable acts. The EU calls on Hamas to immediately put an end to these acts and to renounce violence. All terrorist groups in Gaza must disarm. The EU strongly condemns calls on the civilian population of Gaza to provide themselves as human shields.
The EU condemns the loss of hundreds of civilian lives, among them many women and children. While recognizing Israel's legitimate right to defend itself against any attacks, the EU underlines that the Israeli military operation must be proportionate and in line with international humanitarian law. The EU stresses the need for protection of civilians at all times. The EU is particularly appalled by the human cost of the Israeli military operation in Shuja'iyya, and is deeply concerned at the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation. All sides must meet their obligations and immediately allow safe and full humanitarian access in Gaza for the urgent distribution of assistance. The EU calls on all sides to implement in good faith an immediate cease fire.
2. This tragic escalation of hostilities confirms again the unsustainable nature of the status quo with regard to the situation in the Gaza Strip. While fully recognizing Israel's legitimate security needs, the EU underlines that the humanitarian and socio-economic situation in Gaza must be addressed. It reiterates its call for the immediate, sustained and unconditional opening of crossings for the flow of humanitarian aid, commercial goods and persons to and from the Gaza Strip, in line with UNSC resolution 1860 (2009).
The EU stands ready, including through the reactivation of the EUBAM Rafah mission, if conditions allow, to contribute to a comprehensive and sustainable solution meeting the legitimate security, economic and humanitarian needs of Israelis and Palestinians.
3. The EU strongly condemns the abduction and brutal murder of teenagers from both sides. The perpetrators of these barbaric acts must be brought to justice. The EU commends Israeli and Palestinian leaders for their condemnation of the killings of the abducted teenagers and it deplores all irresponsible statements made in this context on either side. The EU believes that the tragic events of the past weeks reinforce the need for Israelis and Palestinians to work together to fight all forms of terror and violence and to combat incitement.
4. Recent events in the wider Middle East pose serious threats to the EU as well as to its immediate neighbours. The European Union reiterates its fundamental commitment to the security of Israel, including with regard to current and emerging threats in the region.
5. The EU has fully supported US-led peace efforts and underlines that these efforts must not go to waste. The EU is convinced that the regional context and the current crisis make a twostate solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict more necessary than ever. The EU urges the parties to resume meaningful negotiations with the aim of achieving a comprehensive peace agreement based on a two-state solution. The only way to resolve the conflict is through an agreement that ends the occupation which began in 1967, that ends all claims and that fulfils the aspirations of both parties. A one state reality would not be compatible with these aspirations.
6. The EU recalls that a lasting solution to the conflict must be achieved on the basis of the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions, the Madrid principles including land for peace, the Roadmap, the agreements previously reached by the parties and of the Arab Peace Initiative, with the State of Israel and an independent, democratic, contiguous, sovereign and viable State of Palestine, living side by side in peace and security and mutual recognition. The EU believes that clear parameters defining the basis for negotiations are key elements for a successful outcome. The EU has set out and will continue to actively promote its position with regard to parameters in Council Conclusions of December 2009 and December 2010, and as expressed by the EU in the UN Security Council on 21 April 2011. On this basis, the EU is willing to work with the US and other partners on an initiative to relaunch the peace negotiations, based on the following parameters:
- An agreement on the borders of the two states, based on 4 June 1967 lines with equivalent land swaps as may be agreed between the parties. The EU will recognize changes to the pre-1967 borders, including with regard to Jerusalem, only when agreed by the parties.
- Security arrangements that, for Palestinians, respect their sovereignty and show that the occupation is over; and, for Israelis, protect their security, prevent the resurgence of terrorism and deal effectively with security threats, including with new and vital threats in the region.
- A just, fair, agreed and realistic solution to the refugee question.
- Fulfilment of the aspirations of both parties for Jerusalem. A way must be found through negotiations to resolve the status of Jerusalem as the future capital of both states.
7. The preservation of the viability of the two-state solution must remain a priority . The developments on the ground make the prospect of a two-state solution increasingly unattainable. Reaffirming its commitment to implement the Council Conclusions of May and December 2012 as well as the applicability of international human rights and humanitarian law in the occupied Palestinian territory, the EU calls on Israel to halt continued settlement expansion, including East Jerusalem, especially in sensitive areas such as Har Homa, Givat Hamatos and E1, which severely threatens the two state solution; to put an end to settler violence, to the worsening of living conditions for Palestinians in Area C, to demolitions - including of EU funded projects -, evictions and forced transfers, and to increasing tensions and challenges to the status quo on the Temple Mount/Haram al-Sharif. A fundamental change of policy on these negative developments is necessary to prevent the irreversible loss of the two state solution.
8. The EU has welcomed the appointment of a Palestinian government of independent personalities and the declaration by President Abbas that this new government was committed to the principle of the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, to the recognition of Israel's legitimate right to exist, to upholding non-violence and to the respect of previous agreements. The EU's engagement with the new Palestinian government is based on its continued adherence, in words and actions, to these policies and commitments. The EU underlines the need for the Palestinian government to take charge of the Gaza Strip and end the internal division. The EU calls on the new Palestinian government to work towards genuine and democratic elections for all Palestinians.
The European Union reiterates its call upon the Palestinian leadership to use constructively its UN status and not to undertake steps which would lead further away from a negotiated solution.
9. The EU underlines that the future development of the relations between the EU and both the Israeli and Palestinian partners will also depend on their engagement towards a lasting peace based on a two-state solution. The EU's continued support to Palestinian state-building requires a credible prospect for the establishment of a viable Palestinian state, based on respect of the rule of law and human rights.
10. The EU will do all it can to support the achievement of a lasting and just solution to the conflict. In this regard, the EU reiterates its offer to both parties of a package of European political, economic and security support and of a Special Privileged Partnership with the EU in the event of a final peace agreement. The EU is convinced that this support and partnership, by anchoring both the State of Israel and a future State of Palestine in an ever closer relationship with Europe, will provide a strategic framework for their stable, secure and prosperous development."

- Security arrangements that, for Palestinians, respect their sovereignty and show that the occupation is over; and, for Israelis, protect their security, prevent the resurgence of terrorism and deal effectively with security threats, including with new and vital threats in the region.

7. The preservation of the viability of the two-state solution must remain a priority . The developments on the ground make the prospect of a two-state solution increasingly unattainable. Reaffirming its commitment to implement the Council Conclusions of May and December 2012 as well as the applicability of international human rights and humanitarian law in the occupied Palestinian territory, the EU calls on Israel to halt continued settlement expansion, including East Jerusalem, especially in sensitive areas such as Har Homa, Givat Hamatos and E1, which severely threatens the two state solution; to put an end to settler violence, to the worsening of living conditions for Palestinians in Area C, to demolitions - including of EU funded projects -, evictions and forced transfers, and to increasing tensions and challenges to the status quo on the Temple Mount/Haram al-Sharif. A fundamental change of policy on these negative developments is necessary to prevent the irreversible loss of the two state solution.
8. The EU has welcomed the appointment of a Palestinian government of independent personalities and the declaration by President Abbas that this new government was committed to the principle of the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, to the recognition of Israel's legitimate right to exist, to upholding non-violence and to the respect of previous agreements. The EU's engagement with the new Palestinian government is based on its continued adherence, in words and actions, to these policies and commitments. The EU underlines the need for the Palestinian government to take charge of the Gaza Strip and end the internal division. The EU calls on the new Palestinian government to work towards genuine and democratic elections for all Palestinians.
The European Union reiterates its call upon the Palestinian leadership to use constructively its UN status and not to undertake steps which would lead further away from a negotiated solution.
9. The EU underlines that the future development of the relations between the EU and both the Israeli and Palestinian partners will also depend on their engagement towards a lasting peace based on a two-state solution. The EU's continued support to Palestinian state-building requires a credible prospect for the establishment of a viable Palestinian state, based on respect of the rule of law and human rights.
10. The EU will do all it can to support the achievement of a lasting and just solution to the conflict. In this regard, the EU reiterates its offer to both parties of a package of European political, economic and security support and of a Special Privileged Partnership with the EU in the event of a final peace agreement. The EU is convinced that this support and partnership, by anchoring both the State of Israel and a future State of Palestine in an ever closer relationship with Europe, will provide a strategic framework for their stable, secure and prosperous development."

Israel bombarded by Hamas as rockets target nuclear reactor

Hamas terrorists launched three powerful rockets at an Israeli nuclear power plant on Wednesday — a terrifying escalation of hostilities in the increasingly violent conflict.
But a nuclear disaster was averted when Israel’s vaunted Iron Dome defense system shot one of the rockets out of the sky and the other two missed their targets and detonated on the ground without causing any injuries.
Extremists from Hamas’ fanatical Qassam Brigades boasted that they had launched the long-range, M-75 rockets from the Gaza Strip to the Israeli city of Dimona hoping to damage or destroy the reactor, about 47 miles away.
But the Iron Dome — which has had a remarkable success rate of about 90 percent during the recent conflict — and the terrorists’ poor targeting prevented the reactor from being damaged.
The 13-inch (333-millimeter) M-75 rockets have a range of about 50 miles and can reach most of central Israel.
It was the first time that rockets have hit Dimona, one of Israel’s most sensitive areas because of the reactor’s location.
The rockets fired at the nuke plant were among 74 that rained down on cities across the country Wednesday, the Israeli military said.
Crying “God is great,” Palestinians in Gaza cheered as the rockets streaked overhead toward cities across Israel.
An angry Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would continue escalating attacks to stop the Hamas barrage and ordered the military to “take off the gloves” in what it is calling Operation Protective Edge.
“The army is ready for all possibilities,” Netanyahu said after holding a meeting of his security cabinet.
“Hamas will pay a heavy price for firing toward Israeli citizens. The security of Israel’s citizens comes first. The operation will expand and continue until the fire toward our towns stops and quiet returns.”
Hamas also fired a Syrian-made rocket into Hadera — about 78 miles from Gaza, marking the deepest penetration into the country’s interior yet.
“Our enemies have developed, and it is getting scary,” resident Maayan From, 25, said of Hamas’ ability to strike deep into the country. “We have to put an end to this.”
Other Israeli leaders warned a ground invasion could be imminent.
“Despite the fact it will be hard, complicated and costly, we will have to take over Gaza temporarily, for a few weeks, to cut off the strengthening of this terror army,” Yuval Steinitz, Israel’s intelligence minister, told Israel Radio. “If you ask my humble opinion, a significant operation like this is approaching.”
An Israeli military spokesman said the rocket that struck Hadera was an M-302 and was similar to 40 others that were found on a ship intercepted by the Israeli navy in the Red Sea in March.
The rockets — with a range of more than 100 miles — were made in Syria and shipped by Iran and were on their way to Gaza militants, Israel said.
Despite the interception, Hamas still holds dozens of the deadly rockets, which pack lethal warheads of up to 385 pounds.
Israel has attacked more than 560 targets in Gaza during the past two days.
But in an effort to prevent civilian casualties, the Israeli military makes warning phone calls to militants’ homes, telling them to get out immediately because the building is going to be bombed. Warning leaflets are also dropped from the air before specific areas are attacked.
Palestinian medics say 49 people have been killed in Gaza, including 22 on Wednesday.
Israel authorized a call-up of as many as 40,000 reservists, many of whom would be assigned to the West Bank to free up active-duty personnel for Gaza, where Israeli tanks are already massing along the border.

Ik plaats het omdat ik wilde weten waarom de gevechten escaleerden. Omdat ik Israël om humanitaire redenen staakt-het-vuren bestanden zie aanvaarden, waarbij de bevolking in Gaza bevoorraad kon worden, waterleidingen gerepareerd konden worden zodat 130.000 mensen weer water kregen. En ik wilde weten waarom ze het nodig vonden om hun aanvallen op te gaan voeren. Die bestanden hielden niet op permanente basis omdat Hamas wil blijven schieten. Maar dat was tot nu toe geen reden voor Israël om zwaarder te gaan schieten.
In het bericht kwam ik erachter dat Hamas inmiddels langere afstandsraketten heeft waarbij de bevolking van Israël dusdanig groot gevaar loopt, dat Israël het nodig vond zwaarder geschut in te zetten.
Dit staat in schril contract op het feit dat Hamas alleen raketten zou schieten die niet gevaarlijk zijn. Ze hebben nu grotere wapenkracht met meer mogelijke schade.
Nee, ik houd niet van linkjes, dan raak ik het overzicht kwijt onder welk linkje wat staat, kan ik dingen niet meer terugzoeken. Ik heb liever alles overzichtelijk op één plaats waarbij je een totaaldocument krijgt waar je op kan reageren, in opzoeken en duidelijk verwoord staat wat er speelt. Linkjes kunnen verder ook weer verdwijnen.
Ik heb gemerkt dat je ook niet weet of iemand linkjes echt leest en ik heb zelf al snel de neiging links te skippen door een kop die me niet aanspreekt of waarvan ik het belang niet zie en uiteindelijk blijk ik weer iets gemist te hebben. Door het te plaatsen wordt het echt onderdeel van de inhoudelijke discussie. In plaats van vrijblijvend door iemand te bekijken. Als ik zelf later ook nog een lang topic lees, zijn het zoveel pagina's dat ik ook de neiging heb de links te skippen, terwijl juist daar de meeste informatie in staat.
In het bericht kwam ik erachter dat Hamas inmiddels langere afstandsraketten heeft waarbij de bevolking van Israël dusdanig groot gevaar loopt, dat Israël het nodig vond zwaarder geschut in te zetten.
Dit staat in schril contract op het feit dat Hamas alleen raketten zou schieten die niet gevaarlijk zijn. Ze hebben nu grotere wapenkracht met meer mogelijke schade.
