#3 Vourvourou
Op de tweede landtong van Chalkidiki, Sitonia, vind je prachtige baaien en is de zee azuurblauw. Wij vroegen aan een local waar de Grieken van Sitonia zelf gingen zwemmen en zij verwees ons naar Vourvourou. Daar aangekomen waanden we ons even in het paradijs: een strak blauwe lucht met een nog blauwere zee en een wit strand lagen op ons te wachten. Wat Vourvourou vooral zo leuk maakt, is dat je ook hier een écht Grieks gevoel krijgt. Fijne muziek, een gezellige bar en enkel Grieken. Heerlijk! Rijd na een verfrissende duik zeker verder de landtong op. Sitonia heeft veel prachtigs te bieden.

Ik wilde graag zo'n bootexcursie doen zoals je linkt, BGB, maar die beginnen pas met varen ná onze vakantie.
En ik ben een oude feministische muts en ik reis met twee dochters, dus de kloosters van Athos zitten er niet in: we mogen geloof ik tot 400 meter uit de kust komen.
De rest van de tips bekijk ik natuurlijk. Dank!

Jup. Ik heb me de afgelopen dagen wanhopig gegoogeld, maar behalve oude kerken en mooie stranden is er niet zo veel. The Aristotle's Park, a unique theme park of Halkidiki, is located in a most beautiful area with a marvellous view towards the gulf of Ierissos and the whole peninsula of Athos.
The park is dedicated to the famous Greek philosopher, Aristotle and includes a series of interesting instruments which when used properly will show the phenomena of nature. These experimental instruments, operating by rules of physics are mentioned in Aristotle’s textbooks and especially in the one called “The Naturals”. The instruments include a prism, optical discs, sounding bars, a compass, sundial and pendulum – all illustrating important phenomena studied by the great philosopher.
With this addition, the park has become a favorite destination for every visitor and school, since it combines recreation, entertainment and education. It is estimated that has more than 15.000 visitors during the summer.
Open daily: 08.00-20.00

On the eastern side of Nea Fokea, the known “Agiasma” (Holly water) of Apostle Paul is one of the most appealing and interesting landmarks. It is an underground corridor of about 20 km in length, which has been carved on the natural rock and ends in a rectangular underground chamber. It is probably an ancient burial construction that, during the Byzantine period, was transformed into a church. The chamber's walls had been painted thus, most of the paintings worn out due to humidity. Tradition says that Apostle Paul was teaching at Ierissos when haunted and with his life in danger he went into a hole of the earth. Then, passing through an underground corridor, he arrived at Kassandra and came out at the chamber of the "agiasma".

Celebration of Solstice in Klidonas when at night people light fires in Polygyros and have fun with traditional dances and songs. In Potidaia, people also celebrate by a similar feast.
29th of June (Apostle Petros and Pavlos celebration - Saint Paul and Peter celebration)
Some of the most impressive folklore religious feasts in Ormylia and Nea Fokea.
20th of July (Prophet Helias celebration)
It is a traditional festival in Ierissos with free food and wine. In Vavdos people celebrate a feast called as “ta kazania tou Ai-Ilia” (the caldrons of Prophet Elias) with free food and wine. Traditional festival is aldo held in Polygyros and Petralona too.
26-27th of July (Agia Paraskevi- Panteleimonas celebration)
Ιt is a religious feast and folklore festival in Arnea with several events such as textile exhibition and other forms of folklore art. Some traditional festivals are also hold in Agia Paraskevi in Kassandra, Agios Nikolaos, Galatista, Neos Marmaras, Nikiti, Nea Triglia, Kallithea and Kryopigi.

Traditional festival in Metamorfosi, in the church of Agios Pavlos.
15th of August
The great feast of Virgin Mary is celebrated with pomp and circumstance in every place of Halkidiki (bear in mind that in Mount Athos people celebrate that day according to the old calendar). Traditional festivals in Megali Panagia, Polygyros, Sarti, Portaria, Athytos, Kaladra, Nea Triglia, Lakoma, Krini, Kryopigi, Paliouri.
23rd of August

29th of August (Agios Prodromos celebration)

Dat betekent dus echt dat we 2 uur moeten rijden om een pendulum aan te zwengelen in het park van Aristoteles
en voor de rest wat gammele schildpadden.
