Games are so much fun. Why would you be against them?

Okay, I will try to do this in correct English. I had a boyfriend who gamed a lot. When we met he gamed already (and so was I at the time). Eventually I stopped gaming and he continued. I began to irritate me about hes gaming and eventually it sort of became a choice between me or gaming (there were other problems in our relationship too). He choose gaming. So my first advice: you have to take him and accept his gaming or leave him. You cannot force him to find another hobby, and you shouldnt want to either.

Secondly, I think you should realize gaming is a very social activity. Most gamers play games with their online and/or real-life friends. Why are you so against gaming? Maybe you should think about that.

I hope my english isnt too bad:P

This is the main point. I just cant see the beauty of gaming. I really would like to, as I want to support him in his hobbies.

But if at the very beginning, he wouldnt have played so excessively, now I wouldnt have my worries.

You are not his mother, but his girlfriend:p By which I mean that you cannot really intervene in/influence his choices in life, only support/advice him. I think you have to either accept the gaming or leave your boyfriend. If I look back now, I think I kind of had the same experience as HelpBrand. Gaming at first bound ('bond'' in dutch) my ex boyfriend and I together (game together, talk about games together, make inside game jokes together). When I quit (World of Warcraft) and I told him I was worried about his gaming and games did not interest me no more and he stopped to talk about his gaming, our relationship soon became quite 'empty'.

Too bad you removed the original topic post, otherwise I would have been able to provide you of a more specific advice. It would be nice if you could answer these following questions:

- What do you define as excessive gaming? A few hours a week, a few hours a day and every day of the week?

- How does his hobby intervene with his life, your life and your life as a couple (mind you, those are three seperate areas I am asking about)?

- What is his take on his hobby?

- Judging from your reactions, I assume he is playing more than he used to. If that's the case, did something change in his life?

But if at the very beginning, he wouldnt have played so excessively, now I wouldnt have my worries. You don't need to see the beauty of gaming, as long as he sees it. It's his hobby, not yours. Just go and find something for yourself that you consider beautiful, and enjoy it. I'm sure he won't blame you for it.

Supporting each other's hobbies doesn't necessarily mean enjoying them yourself, but rather just letting the other person enjoy whatever floats their boat, and being OK with that.

I lost the game, but I can still enlighten you with my opinion.

For the rest, I think it is very cut if you don´t appreciate gaming while he is addicted to it.

Play another game on him.

Maybe you could try a game in multiplayer mode?

My very first male friend and I often played Mario and Donkey Kong. No, we even started gaming by trying to shoot the dog in Duck Hunt, and each other, with our big orange gun! That was a bit crude, compared to the games of nowadays.

On the other hand, our history in gaming hit me with the best memories.

I can only guess what was standing in the beginning post, so I am talking poo right now.
Oh nee!!! Niet die relaasiepijler!!

Hoe is het met tettenman? Goed hoor, hij bromt nog gezellig in mijn oren en graaft zich graag in in mijn trui . Hoe gaat het aan jouw kant?

I wouldn't expect that someone from abroad comes to this board, starts a topic and then erazes the first message.

Het is hier ook gezellig!

De andijviefetishisten - die ik van de zomer moet verzorgen voor een kennis- hebben er waarschijnlijk een drachtig zeugje bij, dus dat worden nog meer tettenmannen en andijviejagers

Yeah, apparently.

BTW, one of the few moments that I write things in English on a Dutch board. But I am familiar with writing on English boards.

It is funny to read messages from known forumers (=forummers) in English, while you are used to read things in Dutch. I think, you feel the same.
