@lamaatje i'll keep an eye on you and your English
But even though I do notice spelling and grammar mistakes it is more important that everyone understands what you are saying. And believe me, everyone will understand you. My pupils make mistakes that are much much worse!
I also love your video elfje! Maybe I'm going to use it in class to explain my pupils the difference. I also hate it when they say they are from Holland instead of The Netherlands. And we dont live in north or south holland.

The week after, he asked me to check the numbers in a brief for press office. It referred to the Netherlands as Holland. O the sweet taste of revenge.

It's probably the English way of saying that the place sucks and is bloody boring.
I'd kill a cat for a good old English breakfast. Mmmm with a bit of garlic on the tomatoes. A scone with clothed cream for desert. But I'm in Holland now so I'll have a sandwich with peanut butter and a glass of fresh orange juice instead.
Have a lovely day my love
Online reviews of the first restaurant aren't great, so you're probably right. I love understatements, but it usually takes me a while to understand them.
One thing I'll never understand is the English breakfast. I quite like the individual components, just not at 7.30 AM, thank you very much. I prefer porridge and blueberries.
Have a nice day!

In my experience native speakers don't really care if yo make mistakes, by the way. They're usually quite impressed because most of them don't speak foreign languages. In my case it's usually fellow Dutchies who tell me that my Enlish sucks, and then proceed to make mistakes themselves .

May I join you ladies?
I am 100 % Dutch and live in Rotterdam.
But I welcome the opportunity to practice my English.
My husband and I are real Anglophiles (Anglofiles?). We visit London every spring. Except this year due to finance, as my husband is out of work at the moment
We like to travel around the USA and Canada as well.
My Canadian relatives always laugh at our very British use of the lingo. I explained to them that we only learn Her Majesty's English at school, but they keep reminding us that we use words that they haven't even heard of.
At home, we watch BBC often. We are fans of Eastenders, Strictly Come Dancing, quizzes like Pointless and Eggheads, The One Show and other chat shows and many sitcoms.

Hi, I am more or less forced to speak English because I live overseas nowadays. I studied German and Russian. My English is really rusty and most people here speak American English (cringe...). My son has a teacher from Britain by the way. When the kids are talking about french fries at the playground, he doesn't know what they are talking about until I tell him french fries are 'chips'. Then he knows LOL.

Morning y'all!! Glad y'all like my video!
Sorry that's not very British of me
Funny stories here. Amarna what you say about how we learn British English at school makes me laugh. I can still picture, and hear my teacher say: 'drop your jaw, it's ok when you spit'
And my other teacher who thought Monty Python's Holy grail should be part of our education
Good memories though, I always liked English class and literature. Did you guys read 'the catcher in the rye' at school?

Scamp, you'll be pleased to hear I have been spying on the forum a lot! Now am planning to start writing actively again. Main reason I have been writing less is that I now undertake most of my private internet browsing on my tablet rather than laptop. And it is just a bit more of a hassle to type long responses on that blasted thing! How have you been?

No, my teacher wouldn't let me because it wasn't on the bloody reading list. Completely ridiculous. I'd read it, was very passionate about it, wanted to write a reading report about it, but no... "You need to stick to the reading list. Go read Hamlet."
Not that there's something wrong with Hamlet, but rigidness like this really put me off at school. Luckily I got a nice teacher eventually who didn't care and just let me write about whatever I wanted. His class became my favourite. And my English got a lot better too
