For Dutchies who live in England or in any other English speaking country and for people who just like to speak the language.

All welcome.

There's tea and biscuits. Fish and chips, scones and pasties.

So far there are no native speakers, so mistakes will happen.

More than often in my case

Enjoy!

Yeah, there always seems to be that adaptation period when you're back in the Netherlands. When you're having a conversation in Dutch, quickly respond to what the other person is saying ("No way!") and then realize you just spoke English to your mom.

Where I used to be, people were overly polite too. You totally wish the bus driver "a good one" and you're "fine, how 'bout you?".

I miss it every single day...
Talk dirty to me.

I'm still doing something tv fanaat, but obviously not at my usual level. And I can't really say I mind. It's my first break since I was 17 kinda enjoying it!

Morning

We've just come back from our allotment. Planted some strawberries and gooseberry bushes.

The weather is so beautiful. It's grand!

At noon we'll be going to the pub. And tonight we're going to have a take away hahaha

How is everyone?

Elfje do you know if its gonna be a boy or girl yet or will it be a surprise ? I knew both mine I just couldn't wait

Scamp sounds like a busy day

We had pub lunch yesterday steak & chips yum

Wheather here not as good as yours then , its a bit chilly at the moment.

Cleaned house this morning , now relaxing and later on picking up just the one child as d gone for her schooltrip yesterday , she not back till Friday. House is quiet without her mainly because there are no arguments between them

I may be one of the few who will say "Sorry", when I unintendedly bump into someone. I have been in the United States twice, and each time, when someone bumps into me, they say "Sorry", even when it is my fault, and it is me who should say "Sorry".

Dutch people will say: Kan je niet uitkijken? when they bump into you. I live in Australia, people say excuse me, sorry and thank you all the time. It's just a polite small talk. Once I became aware I practised for fun in the supermarket, saying 'sorry' to every one I walked past. People looked truly happy and said reassuring things back. like : 'You right, 'you'r ok'

I just noticed this topic has been going for a while, is it ok to join? Nice initiative Scamp (y)

Oh yes, please join Orbit.

I was surprised as well when everyone said good morning and excuse me (instead of just pushing me out of the way) and sorry (instead of swearing at me or blaming me.)

How an English bloke grabbed my case from up top in the airplane and how the Dutch people pushed to get off the plane first.

How ppl queue up in a line in front of a bus and Dutch people push to get on first.

I'm very nosy as to what Sophiepapa said now

After a long period in the UK everyone in the Netherlands looked at me in a rather astonished/suspicious way whenever I thanked the bus driver, apologised when I bumped into someone, held open a door for an elderly lady, and wished my teacher a nice day. Not everything is better abroad but a little politeness makes life a lot nicer.

Good afternoon everyone! Haven't been here in a while, busy working shifts in a very very posh hospital in L. we can't even imagine in The Netherlands. Great fun to do though.

Elfje congrats with your pregnancy!

Scamp, the place looks lovely, and very romantic (except from the John Clees lookalike, let's hope he doesn't show up), when are you going to get married (just missed it).

I think people are very helpfull especially when you have a baby/pram/child with you.
This is not kosher!

Here it's very windy (breeeeeezy) and rather chilly

Do you also love the woman from the BBCweather? We do!

Elfje a boy

23 degrees, wow. I've got the heating on today!

Wellhello, we don't have a date. We are engaged but we can't set a date because Scampman has severe agoraphobia.

He can't handle a wedding day, let alone a honeymoon.

We both love the weather-woman from the BBC. I like everyone from Breakfast TV there anyway

Thanks wellhello.

Oh sorry guys, I was hoping it would be warm in the UK too, but I guess not. But to make you feel better, from tomorrow we will be back to ten degrees again

Scamp, that must be hard. Is a wedding with just you and your witnesses an option?

Oh and no BBC here so I don't know the woman. But you made me curious

Wellhello, are you in the UK? a posh hospital sounds great! I'm in North Australia and there are certainly no posh hospitals here.. There are hardly any doctors and you are basically on a waiting list until it's an emergency. My friends old Mum was send home with a drip in her arm. I plan to stay healthy..

I think that I really belong in the UK , cause I always say sorry when I bump into someone, always hold doors open for (elderly) people and always try to be friendly and polite. I'm born in the wrong country haha.

Sloffriend and I decided not to look for houses on the Isle of Wight any longer, but focus on Wiltshire or close to Weston-super-Mare where his sister is living.

Scamp, that must be hard for you and Scampman. Does he get any therapy for it?

Brr, yesterday it was almost a summer day and now it's raining
Well hello peeps!

I am currently preparing myself for a flight back home to the Motherland! Though I doubt it will be happy travelling with all the preparations for the nuclear summit... Ah well. I booked some earlier flights than I would have otherwise to ensure I have enough time on both sides which should help.

I am looking forward to kroketten, bitterballen and carpaccio! Very few London restaurants serve carpaccio, especially good carpaccio is difficult. I asked for it at our local butcher, and he didn't even know what it was!

The weather here has been ok though it was very windy yesterday. Hopefully the flight will be calm! 3,5 days in the Netherlands, such luxury!

Brr, yesterday it was almost a summer day and now its raining The sun is shining in London and I got a window seat at work today! Me happy. I have no idea where Wiltshire and Weston-super-Mare are... We should try and find a central location for a UK Viva Forum meet! Lol.

A meet would be great in the future. I won't be moving before another 6 months .

Wiltshire is a county in the South West (Salisbury, Shaftesbury, Bath) and Weston is near Bristol.

Have a nice trip UCchick! U travelling today? I read in the newspaper this morning that there were already traffic jams thanks to the nuclear summit.

carpaccio. After watching Masterchef UK I thought there were good restaurants/chefs in the UK! You should bring some nice Dutch food back with you!

Slofje, I feel exactly the same. I should've been born here , in the UK.

Bath

Happy traveling UcChick. I'll be in NL for 3,5 days in May.

A UK meet would be lovely. I'll travel anywhere

I love trains and traveling.

Elfje, I would like a proper wedding. So it's worth the wait. It's hard to wait, as I'm really impatient. But Scampman is worth the wait

Orbit, Ozzy hospitals sound really awful!

Slofje I've been near Weston super mare last weekend! Lovely place , they've got a nice beach front and the arcade in the pier is brilliant.

UC chick enjoy your stay in motherland , I've got kroketten end bitterballen in my freezer as my mum just been, its a shame IC loves them too

Scampman sounds like he's worth waiting for at least you've got plenty of time to organise your dream wedding

Orbit I just love Australia , love the people , attitude and the accent. I went backpacking in my younger days Had the best time ever. Are you near Darwin ? I remember going to the crocodile sanctuary there.

Viva UK meet sounds good

UCChick, i'm a bit jealous, I crave for kroketten!

I just found out that hot cross buns are quite the same as krentenbollen so we enjoy them a lot in this period!

Yeah an UK meet, seems nice! I have a friend in L. I actually met here on Viva, even our kids were born on the same day!

@Orbit, Aussie healthcare sounds awful! I've heard lots of UK nurses are going down under because the payment is very good. Posh hospital was nice, heard lots of celebs going into rehab there.

Not so good news here, daughter has been admitted in hospital yesterday so we've spend our day next to her bedside. Tonight dad's with her, now I'm home for a bit of sleep and a shower.

Sorry I'm writing a bit chaotic, but my hoofd loopt over
This is not kosher!

Oh no welhello that's terrible news , hope she is getting better soon

I eat the hot cross buns with cheese , people look at me very weird though
