For Dutchies who live in England or in any other English speaking country and for people who just like to speak the language.

All welcome.

There's tea and biscuits. Fish and chips, scones and pasties.

So far there are no native speakers, so mistakes will happen.

More than often in my case

Enjoy!
I would use gap i think.

I have the most trouble with expressions and make the same jokes in english as I do in Dutch. I just can't talk and express myself as freely as in Dutch and that is sometimes grr

Such as: that's a whole great hole

I used gap too. I think a hole is more like a hole in the ground.

Totally off topic, question: how do you put two quotes in one reaction? I see other people do it, but 'I don't get it for each other'

Sorry I couldn't resist some denglish!quote:Slofje schreef op 11 maart 2014 @ 16:36:

that I also would like to know!

Well, it is a bit cumbersome, but this is how I do it:

- quote person 1

- ctrl+a and ctrl+c (select all and copy)

- return to topic

- quote person 2

- ctrl+v (paste) first quote above or under second quote

- write own response
This is an unacceptable timeline
and i learned a new word: cumbersome . I had to look it up.

Thnx for the quoting tip. I will try it out later.

So Scamp: you are Dutch and Scampman is British? Or maybe you already told that and I overlooked . May I asked in which part of the country you live?I'm Dutch and Scampman is British. We live in West Yorkshire. Bronte land

A hole is like a hole in the ground or in a wall.

A gap is a small space between two things.

A cavity is a hole or gap but with teeth, you'd use it with bad teeth. When they have to fill it.

A space is. well everything above.

When a tooth is pulled, I would use ''a space''.

Scampman says you can use all 4 of the options.

Tv, I use Skype twice a week to talk to my parents. I use fb for friends and relatives.

And I email a lot with my dad.

Slofje, yes that is my dog, Lola. Everyone refers to her as a springer spaniel but she is a Dutch Partridge dog. Try explaining that over here haha

Haha yeah i could try that haha. We could alwaar go and live in China as my BF is Chinese. But i dont want to live there because my English is better than my Mandarin (tangerine as one of my pupils asked me haha " Miss tv do you also sprak tangerine?")

But was it difficult to leave your life in the Netherlands behind and to build a new life there?

Tangerine , awww

China is beautiful though. Love it!

For me it was easy to move here. And I've never been homesick once.

I'm homesick to England when I'm in NL.

I'll be in NL in May for my dad's 60th. (It will be a surprise for him) and I'm sad already haha

It felt nice for me to build up a new life. I left an abusive ex husband behind and the relationship between me and my mum was really bad.

That relationship is really good now.

I found friends here quite fast.
I found it more difficult than expected. I moved in with my boyfriend, to a new country, and started my first full times job. A lot of changes at once! It took me a while to get fully settled in. Ironically, the moment I cried loudest was when they didn't have the pill I was on in the Netherlands, I had to change brands and man, did those big bad spots I had during puberty reappear!

Now, I can say I am settled in, though I still want to move back to the Netherlands in due course. I keep in touch within my parents over whatsapp, google chat and phone (I have 50 international minutes within my contract), and see them on average once a month when either I go to the Netherlands or they come over. I still see a lot of my Dutch friends through my hobby, for which I attend international competitions, and the others I see every couple od months into the Netherlands or contact using whatsapp. And every once in a while I send postcards!

@scamp I'm sorry to hear About your past! That must be horrible!! And you sound like such a warm and sweet person. It's good to hear that you are doing well now.

I'm sure your dad will be very surprised when you show up on his birthday. I'm thinking About going go Britain this summer. Maybe go to London, or go back to Belfast go to bournemouth or maybe the lake district. I'm not sure yet.

Hello, I often use the English language when playing my favorite game World of Warcraft. But I also use it on English forums or on forums where English is used. I look ad Youtube vids in English and comment on things in English.

The last few years I have been busy with the ins and outs of the English language: its dialects (British, American, Australian and South-African), its history (Old, Middle and Early Modern English), and some things that are worthy to be known, etc.

I even used English for learning other languages. The language that I fluently speak (with using English and Dutch) is Esperanto. This means, I bought a book in English which taught me Esperanto. The pronunciation is explained in English and I faced the vocabulary with Esperanto words and with the English translations. I have bought English books about the Ukrainian language from the famous webshop Amazon.com. Again, I use English for learning Ukrainian.

Thanks Tv

I'm trying to be warm and kind.

I bet my dad will have a moment where he goes to his garage after we said hello.

No crying allowed.. he just has to get something from the garage

The lake district is beautiful, so is Bournemouth. I really enjoyed Pool.

I love London.

I just love the UK
